Welcome to the FCIA Exam 2 registration page! 

A Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) applies Canadian legislation and the practice-specific standards, concepts and techniques of actuarial science. Our internationally recognized FCIA designation will advance your career and open new opportunities in traditional and emerging areas of actuarial science.

FCIA Exam 2 is designed for those pursuing qualification pathways 1 and 2 (and some Pathway 3 candidates). This four-hour, track-specific exam is open book and assesses your technical expertise and professional knowledge.

Participants will complete the exam through the CIA learning management system, with secure online proctoring. Strict adherence to the exam rules and regulations is mandatory. During the grading process, participants’ answers may be analyzed for plagiarism and other rule violations. The CIA may input participants’ responses into AI tools for plagiarism and/or AI detection, with appropriate human oversight. Exam grading may be conducted in English or French; therefore, exam responses may be translated for grading purposes. The CIA may input participants’ responses into AI tools for translation assistance, with appropriate human oversight. During the exam, participants are responsible for reference material, a secure and reliable internet connection, access to Microsoft Excel and the ability to open a PDF file.        

Resources
We want you to be successful with your exam. Review the FCIA syllabus of your chosen track for an exam overview and reading lists. Supplemental reading references, if applicable, will be provided following registration in the CIA’s learning management system.

Upon registration, you will have access to preparatory materials such as practice questions and past exams. You will find these in the learning management system on the FCIA exam resource page.

  • October 15: F2FIE – Valuation and Financial Considerations
  • October 20: F2PC – Estimating Unpaid Claims and Financial Reporting under IFRS 17 - Insurance Contracts
  • October 22: F2ILA – Product Design and Pricing
  • October 27: F2GB – Group Benefits Product Pricing

FCIA exams are four hours long and sittings run from 11:00 to 15:00 ET.

While we recommend taking the exams in order, it is not mandatory.

All modules and exams must be completed in the same specialized track.

Transition rules
The CIA’s transition rules, established in 2022 to help bridge changes to qualification requirements, ended on December 31, 2025.
